Ideas for Organizing the DaVinci Resolve 12 Media Pool

August 19, 2015

DaVinci Resolve 12 offers several new tools for keeping your Media Pool organizing. Learn how to use them when starting a new project.

DaVinci Resolve 12 First Look: Organizing the Media Pool (when starting a new project)

When Team Mixing Light recorded our series of DaVinci Resolve 12 Special Report podcasts, Dan and I got somewhat passionate that Resolve 12 Public Beta 1 eliminated dedicated Timeline folders. We both felt it added a sense of disorganization to our projects and wished Resolve would bring those folders back.

This week Blackmagic released DaVinci Resolve 12 Public Beta 3 and . . .

I’m happy to report that Timeline Bins are a new Project Settings option!

I’m so thrilled, I blogged about this new feature in the Tao of Color blog – declaring it one of my Resolve 12 Little Gems.

Writing that Little Gem inspired me to record this Insight. Now that we have full organization control of our Projects, I brainstormed some ideas on how to use Timeline Bins and Smart Bins to start strong on a new project.

In this Insight you’ll learn three things:

  • How to use Smart Bins to help you identify problems when starting to work on an unfamiliar project
  • The difference between the ‘Enable Smart Timelines Folder’ option and the ‘Use Timeline Bins’ option
  • Give you some ideas on how and why to organize your Timeline folders

This Insight features footage from our good friends at BloodyCuts.co.uk

The project I’m importing is for the Teaser Trailer (which was graded before the final film was graded).

We’ve decided to make this Insight free for non-Members to watch

Dan and I were very passionate discussing the lack of Timeline Bins in DaVinci Resolve Public Beta 1. And since we made that Special Report Free, we’ve decided to make this Insight Free to non-members as well—if nothing else to give Team DaVinci Resolve kudos for listening to their user base!

Paid Mixing Light members can log in to download the video of this Insight.

Do you want to comment or ask a question?

That’s why we’ve got them at the bottom of this Insight! I hope to hear from you.
